SmarterChild’s creator elaborates on creating a personality for the chatbot

According to the creator of SmarterChild, Robert Hoffer, the goal of the company was to create a bot, which people will actually use. In order to achieve that objective, he stated that internet had to be treated as the best friend.

SmarterChild thus created a bot that could respond to funny, sarcastic and sad comments. This gave the bot a special characteristic of being able to perform more like a human than like a robot. Moreover, based on sources, the robot could talk to 250,000 humans every day back in 2000, which was unusual for that era, hence the company can assure about the bot’s usage.

Furthermore, the creator says that not every bot needs to be programmed with a snark. Based on the subject area, some bots also need to work on the guidelines of brevity and direct responses. In his brief about the functioning of the bot, the creator speaks of the preliminary function of the bot which is to help users get their task done, especially if they are completely relying on the chatbot for information.

Based on research surveys, 69 percent of consumers use chatbot in order to get an instant answer, whereas only 15 percent use the bot for fun. This attributes to another important reason, why the bot needs to have a personality.

According to Hoffer, once the company has ensured the performance of the bot, chatbots could have the potential to become the key ambassadors for the organization, in which the bot’s personality could play a crucial role.

This way personality was crucial but performance always took more priority.
